American culture is obsessed with the legal system, judging by the variety of legal thrillers, courtroom TV shows, and feature films about the law. The law regulates human behavior, but it also makes for good entertainment. The fascination with lawyers and what they do will never diminish as long as there is human conflict, and as long as there is curiosity about how the law works and why it sometimes fails.
The Forum on Law, Culture & Society at Fordham Law School is a public humanities program that invites you to satisfy your intellectual curiosity on matters of law, justice, and civil society in a dynamic and engaging town hall setting. The Forum brings together influential artists and leading public figures in conversation with you—the audience—to explore ideas about law and justice, and how the two are integrated into the broader culture.
The Forum allows you to connect, discuss, and—most of all—think about the way legal matters affect society and influence the artistic imagination. The Forum is free and open to everyone. So join our Forum community. Come to our events. Watch highlights of our programs. Read or comment on our blog. And become part of something that is important and smart.
The Forum offers you a broad range of cultural events and activities:
Our Conversations take place at Time Warner Headquarters and include discussions with important public figures and celebrities whose lives and work contribute to the public's understanding of the legal system.
The Fordham Law Film Festival is a free annual event that screens six law-related films followed by conversations with artists, writers, public intellectuals, and members of the legal profession.
Both our Conversations and the Film Festival discussions are followed by questions from the audience—the forum that the Forum creates for you.
Fordham Law is a vibrant academic community dedicated equally to scholarship, the craft of lawyering, and public service. A leader in American legal education, Fordham Law has earned widespread acclaim and is one of the most selective schools in the nation, measured in terms of the LSAT scores of its most recent graduating class. With a virtually unrivaled record of graduate placement, Fordham Law is one of the top 7 law schools measured in terms of graduates working at the top 25 law firms in the country. The school—located across the street from Lincoln Center in Manhattan—is only blocks away from Central Park, Times Square, and many of New York City’s most interesting neighborhoods.
